Dear parents,

Given the current circumstances regarding health and wellness at our school, it is necessary to enforce some social distancing for the general well-being of our community. As I’m sure you’re aware, this is a new process for all of us. Some of the measures we are taking to support distance learning for our students have not been tried in practice before. We may have a period of adjustment that proves challenging. I hope that we can work in partnership to make this experience as smooth as possible for you and your child, so they can continue feeding their curiosity and still learning new things each day.

To that end, at the beginning of each week I will be in contact with you regarding a general schedule for your child for that week. The schedule will include all assignments in all subjects that will be covered that week. The schedule will also include any times that I will be online teaching lessons in Google Hangouts/Meet, and the times that I will be available each day for questions and support.

(Information regarding logging in deleted from this online publication of original email. See Mrs. Grunow’s email if needed.)

Remember: I will be available on school days to assist you with assisting your child. The goal is to keep your child learning as much as possible. Please feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have going forward. I will be in contact with you both to work with your child, and to continually assign work for your child. Any and all school updates will come to you from the Head of School.

Please remember that this is how our school day is going to operate for the next three weeks. If a student doesn’t log in for a scheduled lesson, they will be marked absent and will miss the lesson. I would suggest setting up a space in your home that acts as your child’s “school space” — both to keep important school items from getting lost, and so that the space can be walked away from. As I discussed with students as we prepared Friday, we will not be schooling all day. Some of what we do as a school community cannot be transferred to distance learning. We do not want students sitting and working or sitting online all day. This is a great opportunity to do extra reading, work on a big interest project — like building a model or large LEGO set. Social distancing will be challenging for all of us, but even more so if we don’t try to inject some enjoyment into our days.

Thank you, and let’s all be sure to be patient and gracious with one another during this challenging time!

Sincerely,
Liz Grunow
