Fifth and Sixth Grades

Japhet School’s Middle School focuses on thoughtful listening, informed decision making, cooperative learning, and the ability to self-organize and plan. A team-teaching approach between the middle school teachers enables students to learn in whole-group, small-group, and individual sessions to build confidence and mastery.

  • Middle School has fewer than 20 students
  • New, interactive textbooks bring technology into the daily lives of students
  • Students enjoy seven special classes weekly: Spanish, Physical Education, Art, Integrated Technology, Life Skills, Music, and Library
  • Units in Math, Science, Social Studies, and Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop meet and exceed the Michigan and national content and learning standards
  • Academic and dramatic oral presentations
  • 5th and 6th grade students typically have 45 minutes to an hour of homework each day

In Middle School students practice self-management daily. Their classroom atmosphere is lively yet also one that holds the highest expectation of each person present. Leadership opportunities arise with frequent public speaking, Student Council, Leadership Class with the Head of School, and service.
