Information About Head Position
Japhet School — an independent school serving 70 students Pre-8th in Clawson, Michigan — seeks its next Head of School to start June 2018. Japhet is a leader with its award-winning Character Education curriculum and is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS).
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- direct and prescribe the course of study
- handle all matters regarding employment
- assist with student recruitment (led by Admissions/Marketing staff), as well as discipline and discharge
- manage the financial affairs of the School (supported by Business Office staff)
- direct development efforts to cultivate and effect generous support for the School
- plan for Japhet’s future in partnership with the Board of Trustees
- ensure that Japhet School complies with all applicable local state and federal laws and regulations
- maintain good community relations
Desired qualifications include:
- leadership style that is community-minded, respectful, and inclusive; one that is warm, approachable, and accessible to students, parents, faculty, staff, trustees, and community members
- effective communication skills with faculty, staff, parents, students, trustees, and community members
- comfort in serving as a public figure and spokesperson of the school
- marketing, financial, and fundraising interest and experience
Applicants must have the following qualifications:
- Master’s Degree (MA) or equivalent combination of education and experience
- outstanding moral character
- membership in The Mother Church, First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston
- active membership in Branch or Society of The Mother Church
- class-taught by authorized teacher of Christian Science
