Teaching and Reaching in Extraordinary Ways: 3/20/20

As always, we are here for you — particularly during this challenging time. You are important to us. Much is being required of all of us, and your efforts to partner with our teachers in your children’s continued education is greatly appreciated. Teachers are working diligently to provide instruction and resources every day for students. Additionally, our web page is an excellent resource for continued learning. I am tremendously proud of our teachers and the extraordinary ways they are teaching and reaching students through distance learning.

You may have read today in the Detroit Free Press the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) announcement that online learning won’t count towards yearly instructional requirements. This applies to public schools only. As an independent school, we receive our accreditation from the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) whose requirements are thorough and comprehensive. We are also members of the Association of Independent Michigan Schools (AIMS), whose guidance supports all independent schools in Michigan.

So, as we travel together through these next days and weeks, let’s acknowledge together what we know to be true: Japhet School is a family and we care for one another. Your experience is important to us and it’s important that you let us know if you need support. We know that our teachers and staff are truly dedicated to your children’s well-being and their continued learning is a priority.
