Starting the New Year with Joy and Hope: 1/8/21

Dear Parents and Friends of Japhet School,

Albert Einstein writes, ”In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.” As we begin a new year and close the door on 2020, we reflect on the ability to change course and adapt and the blessings that have come from this action. And, as we are all well aware, there have been many opportunities to do just that!  Whether addressing our health and safety, changing our normal routines, addressing racial injustice and diversity, or the most recent unfortunate violence at our nation’s Capitol building, we must maintain a sense of orderly thinking and continue to seek peaceful, compassionate, and responsible solutions as opportunities arise. Although the world around us may seem in disarray, Japhet School continues to be a peaceful and stable environment in which students are able to learn and grow.

At Japhet School, our mission is to nurture and prepare each child for life by integrating character education with a strong academic program. As an educational community, Japhet cherishes nurturing thoughtful and curious thinkers, providing opportunities for exploration and individual growth, and empowering students to be critical thinkers. We are dedicated to educating the leaders of tomorrow. We embrace diversity and model respect for all and have focused on this topic during our staff professional development this year.  We live by the Golden Rule ~ treat others the way we want to be treated. We are hopeful that, as we navigate the sometimes challenging waters, new solutions and a fresh outlook to problems will advance our learning and living.

In March of 2020, when our daily routines were abruptly altered due to the pandemic, Japhet’s team of educators immediately responded and provided a virtual learning plan within hours of the decision to close all Michigan school buildings.  We learned to embrace a mindset of change and found the courage to meet difficulties when presented. We have learned to become better problem solvers and to find joy in seeking fresh solutions. And we will continue to move forward as inspired thinkers.

I’m immensely grateful for the entire Japhet Community who have supported our mission throughout the years and particularly this challenging year. Your partnership with us is priceless. You have proven your commitment through participation in our school activities and fundraising efforts. Because of you, we have raised close to $90,000 through our first virtual 18 Reasons for Hope fundraiser and our Annual Appeal! Thank you for your strong support and commitment.

As we leap into our new year with joy and hope, safety continues to be our top priority. We will continue to take the necessary steps to keep our students, faculty, and staff healthy. Your cooperation and patience are greatly appreciated, as well as your understanding. Exciting educational opportunities for our students are just around the corner, and I look forward to being able to share with you more information about these opportunities. Thank you for your partnership and your willingness to support the vision and mission of Japhet School.

“There are far better things ahead than any we leave behind.”  C.S. Lewis

With joy!
Kerri
