Seventh and Eighth Grades

Japhet School’s Middle School Classroom provides a safe middle school setting in which students find their own voice – a setting that allows students to discover their role in providing social justice. Figuring out how to balance rigorous academics and interpersonal relationships with minimal – but watchful – adult assistance prepares them for a successful high school experience.

  • Middle School has fewer than 20 students
  • New, interactive textbooks bring technology into the daily lives of students
  • Students enjoy six special classes weekly: Spanish, Physical Education, Art, Integrated Technology, Life Skills, and Music, as well as time in our school library
  • Units in Math, Science, Social Studies, and Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop meet and exceed the Michigan and national content and learning standards
  • Academic, dramatic, and competitive oral presentations
  • 7th and 8th grade students typically have at least an hour of homework each day

Middle School students are coached to model the Japhet ideal by accepting challenges, understanding concepts within a global context, and living the Japhet character qualities in their work and social habits. Leadership opportunities arise with frequent public speaking and assembly planning, Student Council, Leadership Class with the Head of School, and service.
